The first rod eye below the rod tip is so freaking tiny you can barely get a surgeons knot through it. I like to load filler line on the reel spool and tie in a union with just an overhand or half hitch but that knot with 14lb test and up won’t go past that second eye. Frustrating. Use bigger guides.
I understand your concern regarding the size of the guides. The guides on this rod are intentionally designed to be smaller to help reduce weight and improve the overall performance and sensitivity of the rod.
With this guide setup, we recommend using an FG knot when connecting your braided main line to your leader. The FG knot has a very slim profile and is designed to pass smoothly through smaller guides while maintaining excellent strength.
If you are using a larger connection knot, it may be more noticeable when passing through the guides. The FG knot should provide a much smoother connection and casting experience.

Very nice rods! I have only fished these rods four or five times but that is enough to know I like them. It's just hard to beat the deals that Ark offers from time to time on their rods and reels. They try harder to make their rods and reels the best bang for your bucks than any other fishing equipment manufacturer/supplier that I've dealt with. I have 16 rods and reels on my boat -15 of the rods are Ark rods and 12 of the reels are Ark reels. I've been fishing for many years and I know what I like.
