In my opinion, I like the G2 better. I don’t like how the handle is pushed out more from the body of the reel. It’s a good reel, I just prefer the G2.
The Gravity Eight is an excellent fishing reel. I own several Shimano reels and a Bates reel and the Gravity Eight is as smooth and works as well as any of those. It gives a wider variety of settings for backlash control. It has a three position internal system and a 20 position external adjustment so you can dial in control extremely precisely for a given lure and it's easy to do. I believe it's as good as any reel on the market.
Had a bass wrap in some reeds and tried to pull it out but the drag kept slipping even though it was cranked down tight. Eventually had to break off 40lb braid. Won’t use it for flipping anymore. I don’t recommend the reel at all.

Please loosen the drag and tighten it down again. It should solve it. We have oil on the new washers in the drag so it needs to break in during the first a few times using it. Thanks,
G8 reel has a washer somehow get stuck in the drag star and chewed up the threads on the drag star and the threads it screws onto. The didn't even show a washer under the handle in the breakdown. Can't comment on the rob because I haven't used it. Had the reel in my possession for about a day. Got it on a Tuesday called warranty on Wednesday. Lady who answered did answer my questions but no apology for a product defective out of the box. Was told by customer service my reel was going to be fixed with a new drag star but somehow he didn't notice the other chewed up threads till I mentioned it. Would of rather had a new reel sent out than a fix. Which is what I would of done with my own business that I have ran for 15 years. Issues out of the box is an automatic return. We will see if this is my last purchase or ark makes it right I will buy more. Never had this out of a diawa, Shimano, or even a cheap lews reel.

We appreciate your feedback. You mentioned this happened when you were trying to take the reel apart to oil it. The washer sat in between the handle and the star drag need to be taken off before you start loosing the star drag otherwise there would be a chance that the washer got stuck in the thread of it. However, our warranty team was on the phone with you to make sure that was the only problem you've had. Then we replaced the shaft, washer and the star drag with all new parts to make sure it works just same as brand new. And you were happy over the phone with the service we provided.
